Where to Fill and Dump Before the Causeway, by Neighborhood

Rickenbacker Causeway is the only road onto Virginia Key. Whatever is in your tanks when you cross is what you have for the weekend.

So the useful question is not where the RV is parked when you pick it up. It is what you can do between the pickup point and the causeway.

The neighborhoods, honestly

Doral sits next to Miami International, which makes it the natural choice for a fly-in. It is warehouse and hotel country, the streets are wide, and a 30 foot rig is unremarkable there. You are roughly a highway run from the causeway.

Homestead is south, agricultural, and the streets handle big vehicles without drama. It is further out, which costs you time on arrival day but gives you room to sort the rig before you drive anywhere tight.

Brickell is towers and valet. No host is dropping a Class C into a Brickell garage, and the height limits are real. It is close to the causeway on-ramp, which is genuinely convenient, but it is the worst place in Miami to do anything practical with an RV.

Miami Beach has a different problem: you would cross MacArthur Causeway to get out, then work back across to Rickenbacker. Two causeways instead of one, for no benefit.

Coconut Grove and Coral Gables are shaded, narrow in places, and full of low branches and HOA rules. Fine for a small trailer, awkward for anything tall.

What to actually do on the way

Whatever neighborhood you start in, the sequence before you cross is the same.

1. Fill fresh water completely.
2. Empty grey and black tanks completely.
3. Fuel up, including any generator fuel you are carrying.
4. Buy ice, and bring cash for more, since ice is the only thing sold on site.
5. Do a slide and awning check. The gate guidance says not to extend slides unless they retract quickly, and not to open canopies.

The part people get wrong

They do steps one through four the night before, then park overnight, then drive in.

Fine, except a full fresh tank is several hundred pounds of water you are then driving around Miami with, and an overnight parked somewhere unfamiliar in a rented rig is its own risk. If your pickup is same day, do the service stop on the way, not the night before.
